Delurking as a Form of User Engagement.

The act of delurking can easily be seen as a form of user engagement. Ad-hoc techniques and strategies have been proposed to enhance user engagement in specific contexts, such as gamification strategies [9], and strategies based on the support and guidance from elder, active members of the community (possibly, experts, opinion leaders, etc.) [27, 44]. In a study by Nazi et al. [31], the delurking problem is addressed by focusing on an automatic way to simplify the reviewing task of web items of interest, thus engaging lurkers in commenting activities. The motivation for this study stems from the fact that writing a detailed review for a product or service is usually time-consuming and may not offer an incentive. Therefore, through a recommendation approach, a lurker would quickly choose from among the set of recommended tags to articulate her/his feedback for the item without having to spend a lot of time writing the review.
